What's the best way to select a professional roofing contractor?
Since buying a new roof is an important investment, you should insist on working with a professional roofing contractor. The National Roofing Contractors Association (NRCA) recommends that you pre-qualify your roofing contractor to get the job done right the first time. See the check list to help pre-qualify and choose the best contractor for your needs.

Is there a roofing consumer group I can reach if I have questions?
In the consumer's interest, the NRCA can assist you in getting the kind of results you expect - a quality roof at a fair price.

What should I consider when thinking about getting a metal roof?
Metal roofs are premium roofing systems that are known for being durable and long-lasting systems that can withstand most weather conditions and won't decompose over time. Unlike asphalt, tile, or wood shingles, metal won't dry out, crack or curl, expand or contract under extreme temperatures. And you won't have to change it in 12 to 20 years, as you will with asphalt roofs.
The upfront costs tend to be more expensive than asphalt roofs. While asphalt might be attractive initially, over time, you'll wind up having to install two or more while your metal roof will keep on providing the protection for you and your home. A metal roof will indeed save you money over time. In fact, most metal roofs come with a true 30 to 50 year warranty.

Can I get a roof to match my house or building?
No matter what climate or style, you can find a metal roof to match.

What are some signs of needing a new roof?
If you experience any of these things, you probably need a new roof:
  • > Leaks or water marks in the attic after wind-driven rain or after ice build up
  • > Water stains on interior ceilings and walls; mold and mildew growth
  • > Decay of roof shingle, sheathing, and/or siding
  • > Cracked, missing, or curled roof shingles
  • > Dark, "dirty-looking" areas on your roof
  • > Excessive energy bills

My roof needs some repair, but I want to wait until summer or autumn to fix it. What should I consider?
Fall and early winter are usually the busiest times of year for building contractors. Delaying a roof repair until summer or autumn means competing with the school roof-work schedules in the summer and the inevitable congestion each fall. As with everything in my life, great benefits can come from planning ahead.
Testimonials

"I appreciate your timely attention to a smaller job like this. It has been my experience that the biggest (and usually most qualified) companies shy away from the smaller jobs. It was nice to feel that to Melanson, this roof was just as important to you as it was to me."

"My wife and I want you to know that we think the new roof looks fantastic. Al and his crew did such a great job! We were thoroughly impressed with their skill and professionalism. They worked quickly while still being very conscious of protecting our lawn and gardens. My wife really appreciated that. Taking down the old chimney out back was no easy task but Al and his crew handled it very well. The clean up they did was amazing. There was never any mess left at the end of each day and the final cleanup when the job was done was perfect. I cannot find a single nail or even a small piece of shingle on the lawn. This was not the case with the previous roofers we had here.

My wife and I want to thank you and Al and his crew for a job well done. We have received nothing but compliments from our neighbors and we wouldn't hesitate to recommend Melanson in general and Al and his crew specifically to anyone who asks. In fact, we believe that Al and his entire crew deserve to get a huge raise (immediately after we pay our bill). Thank you all again."
